Next-generation applications require novel materials. The CPS research and development team is hard at work developing solutions that could get your project off the ground.
Active Development Programs
Radiation Shielding
CPS is developing advanced composite radiation shielding to support the transportation of nuclear microreactors (NMRs) and their operation, as well as other applications related to both small modular reactors (SMRs) and larger nuclear facilities. By combining high-density gamma shielding constituents and low-density neutron absorbers in an aluminum matrix, CPS creates customizable radiation shielding composites in a single envelope.
Fiber Reinforced Sheets and Cylinders
Extremely strong and stiff, fiber-reinforced MMCs enable lightweighting of structural components in diverse defense, automotive, energy, and aerospace applications. These materials are ideally suited for any system requiring weight reduction, high strength, high temperature operation, or thermal insulation.
Tungsten Injection Molding
CPS is actively working to optimize tungsten injection molding by utilizing our proprietary Quickset Injection Molding process. Through rigorous process development, we are able to repeatably produce high definition tungsten components at high volume.
Thermal Energy Storage
Through the use of aluminum and phase-change materials, CPS is pioneering the effective use of metal matrix composites for thermal energy storage. This novel product reduces weight and simplifies the end system design.
